2. Overview
I only process personal data as far as needed to run this website and answer your enquiry, or where you have given consent. Legal bases: Art. 6(1)(a) (consent), (b) (contract/pre-contractual steps), (c) (legal obligation) and (f) (legitimate interests) GDPR, and Section 25 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act) for accessing information on your device. I do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you (Art. 22 GDPR).
3. Hosting and server log files (Netlify)
This site is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 101 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA. When you visit, Netlify processes technically necessary data (e.g. IP address, date/time, page requested, referrer, browser/OS) in server log files to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure, stable website). Netlify processes this data and the form data (section 4) on my behalf. Processing or access in the US is possible. Netlify's data processing agreement is part of its terms of service. Netlify, Inc. is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so transfers to the US rely on the European Commission's adequacy decision, with the EU Standard Contractual Clauses as a fallback. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards. According to Netlify, log data is kept for up to 90 days online and up to one year offline and then deleted.
4. Getting in touch (form, email, Instagram)
Contact form. If you use the contact form, I process your name, email address, message, the optional area you pick (e.g. video & podcast, website) and the page language to answer your enquiry and prepare a quote. Form data is transmitted and stored via Netlify Forms (Netlify, see section 3); a hidden field is used to block spam (honeypot). Providing your name, email address and message is not required by law or contract, but is needed for me to reply through the form. Without it, I cannot handle your enquiry. Choosing an area is optional.
Email. I handle form notifications and emails in a personal Gmail account provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland; Google also processes the data under its own terms and privacy policy. Access from or processing in the US may take place; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Instagram. If you contact me by Instagram direct message, I process your profile name and message to handle your enquiry. Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. processes data for the messaging service itself under its own responsibility; transfers to third countries may occur.
Legal basis for all contact channels: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries about a possible project, otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in replying). Retention: I delete Netlify form submissions, related emails and messages 6 months after an enquiry is closed, unless they are needed for a contract, legal claims or statutory retention. Where an enquiry becomes part of business records subject to statutory retention, I keep those records for the applicable period.
5. Content from the CMS (Sanity)
I manage text and images in the content management system Sanity (Sanity AS, Oslo, Norway; Sanity Inc., USA). When the website is built, the content is fetched from Sanity and stored as finished pages and image files on Netlify's servers. When you visit the public pages, your browser therefore does not connect to Sanity and no visitor data is sent to Sanity. The studio at /admin, used only by me, is a separate admin interface.
6. Fonts
Fonts (Archivo, Instrument Sans, Instrument Serif, Martian Mono) are hosted locally. No connection is made to Google Fonts or other font providers.
7. Storing your consent choice (localStorage)
When a consent dialog is shown, this site stores your choice and its timestamp locally in your browser (key ds-consent-v2). This is necessary to respect your choice on later visits (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). It stays stored until you change it via "Cookie & media settings" in the footer or clear your browser's local storage.
8. Ad measurement (Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel)
I currently do not use the Meta Pixel or the TikTok Pixel; no ad measurement via these services takes place on this website. Should I activate them in future, this will only happen with your consent in the consent dialog, and I will update this policy with the specific processing beforehand.
9. YouTube videos (click-to-load only) and links to social networks
I show videos hosted on YouTube (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). Until you click, only a preview image stored on my own server is shown and no connection to YouTube is made. When you click "Play video", the video loads in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com); your IP address, device information and the page URL are then transmitted to Google, and YouTube may store information in your browser during playback. Transfers to the US are possible (the EU-US adequacy decision applies to the certified Google LLC). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG — your consent by clicking. Consent applies to that video only; on your next visit only the preview image is shown again. You can stop loading by leaving or reloading the page; transfers that have already taken place are not undone.
Shorts, YouTube videos, my Instagram profile and other sites (e.g. counter-culture.de) are also included as plain links. Only when you click such a link do you leave this website; the operator of the target site is responsible for any processing there.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR); this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Contact me at the email address above.
